Rochon, born from Torrance (a suburb of Los Angeles), is the daughter of Zelma Staples. Her parents are Samuel Staples a graphic designer and businessman. Cerritos High School, Cerritos California is where she finished her high school education in the year 1982. She graduated in 1986 from California State University Dominguez Hill (CSUDH) with a Bachelor's Degree in Broadcast Journalism. She also majored in Sociology and Theatre. Ullerup first appeared first in Battlestar Galactica remake, the Sci Fi Channel's 2006 TV show. The role she played was Julia Brynn. The actress performed the role of Ashley Magnus in the first and second seasons of the television show Sanctuary up until her character was written out. Her character was subject to heated discussion amongst viewers who wanted her to be back in the future on shows. The show ended up being cancelled in 2012.
